Responsible Use:
Biotech Tree Principles

How to Participate in the Responsible Use initiative

The Responsible Use: Forest Biotechnology Principles are managed by the Institute of Forest Biotechnology (IFB), but the actual content for the initiative material comes from a wide range of stakeholders.

We strive to make this initiative as inclusive, transparent, and effective as possible given our short timeline. To help achieve these goals we need your help!

There are many ways to get involved. below is a list of the most common ways to participate:

  1. Use the comment form below to express your opinions and provide feedback to the Implementation Committee. Every constructive comment is read and addressed.

  2. Sponsor this initiative. Sponsors have a high level of managerial oversight and help support the necessary costs of developing the Principles.

  3. Ask to be considered for a spot on the Stakeholder Committee. This committee works with the Implementation Committe to review draft versions of documents before they are made available for public comment.

  4. Support the intent of this initiative. If you or your organization would like to support the intent of this work, without getting involved in the detals, you can be added to the growing list of supporters.

There are also a variety of ways to get involved that do not fit into one of the categories listed above. For example, some individuals and organizations help promote additional stakeholder interaction by providing logistic support for meetings.

If you are interested in participating, please contact us and we will find a way to help you get involved in a positive, meaningful way. We value all the input we receive that helps make this initiative stronger.

Supporters of Intent

We are compiling a list of individuals and organizations that support the intent of the Responsible Use: Forest Biotechnology Principles. While pledging support of stewardship principles still being developed may be onerous for some organizations, becoming a supporter of the intent is much more straightforward. Support of intent should not be construed to imply an individual or organization agrees with every detail of the Responsible Use: Forest Biotechnology Principles. Rather, these supporters agree with the intention to,

"Develop Principles that will help guide the long-term stewardship of biotech trees, in an open and inclusive manner, that are based on science, dialogue, and stewardship."

If you or your organization would like to be added to this list, please contact us.
